D4vd 'Not Cooperating' in Celeste Rivas Murder Investigation
It's been over two months since authorities discovered the body of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas in the trunk of a Tesla belonging to 20-year-old singer D4vd. After weeks of investigating, it seems that D4vd has finally been named as a suspect in the girl's death, but it does not seem like he is willing to cooperate with authorities despite what he may be saying publicly.
Shortly after the girl's body was found in his vehicle, D4vd's team issued a statement indicating that the artist was fully cooperating with the investigation. However, a recent report suggests that this has not been the case.
What We Know So Far
- A decomposing body was found inside a Tesla belonging to musician D4vd at an impound lot in Hollywood on Sept. 8.
- The car was brought to the impound lot after “someone reported it abandoned” in Hollywood Hills, and police were called after workers “reported a strong odor” coming from the Tesla.
- The Tesla was never reported as stolen.
- The body was discovered inside a bag in the Tesla’s front trunk. The remains were not intact and had badly decomposed.
- The remains were so decomposed that it took authorities more than a week to identify the body.
- The remains were eventually identified as 14-year-old Celeste Rivas.
- D4vd has a matching tattoo with Rivas, and her mother said she has been missing for over a year and that her daughter’s boyfriend was named David.
- D4vd initially decided to continue his world tour while cooperating with the investigation, but he cancelled the remainder of his tour on Wednesday.
- An unreleased love song written by D4vd references someone by the name of “Celeste” in the unfinished title and twice in the lyrics.
- Police raided a home connected to D4vd as they continue the investigation.
- D4vd moves out of the home that the police raided.
- Authorities have not officially deemed the death a homicide since medical examiners have been unable to determine an official cause of death.
- A private investigator made a “disturbing” discovery inside the house, finding items he believes could be used to “get rid of a person.”
- Police have stood by their statement that it is “unclear” whether a crime was committed beyond the concealment of the body, which would lead to a rather light punishment.
- D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, was not considered a suspect for the first two months of the investigation, but he has now been named a suspect in the girl's death.
- D4vd has hired a high-profile defense attorney.
D4vd is Now a Suspect
Through the first several weeks of the investigation, authorities did not list D4vd as a suspect in the girl's death. In fact, in the most recent statement issued by the Los Angeles Police Department on Sept. 29, authorities had not yet even been able to determine whether or not a crime was committed beyond the concealment of the body.
“The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause or manner of Ms. Rivas Hernandez’s death,” police wrote in a statement back in September. “As such, it remains unclear whether there is any criminal culpability beyond the concealment of her body. RHD is thoroughly examining every aspect of this case to uncover the truth and seek justice for Celeste Rivas Hernandez and her family.”
Earlier this month, police stood by their previous statement on the matter, offering no updates. However, it does seem like D4vd is now a suspect, even if authorities have not yet listed him as a suspect publicly.
On Nov. 18, ABC7 in Los Angeles reported that D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, was now a suspect, citing a source with knowledge of the investigation
D4vd Caught in a Lie
Early on in the investigation, a spokesperson for D4vd issued a statement declaring that the artist was "fully cooperating" with authorities as they investigated the body found in his vehicle.
“D4vd has been informed about what’s happened. And, although he is still out on tour, he is fully cooperating with the authorities,” a spokesperson for the singer told NBC Los Angeles back in September.
However, that statement appears to have been untrue.
ABC7 reports that not only is D4vd currently uncooperative with authorities, but he has actually never been cooperative with the investigation, despite what his spokesperson may have said publicly.
"Sources with knowledge of the investigation say D4vd is not cooperating with the investigation and never has cooperated, despite what his PR reps have claimed," ABC7 reported on Tuesday.
ABC7 reported on Tuesday that the artist is now a suspect in the girl's death.
