One of the Best Superhero Shows Is Leaving Netflix Before the Holidays

0 1

Over the last few decades, a slew of different shows that have focused on superheroes have been produced. While many of those series have developed devoted fan followings, there have only been a handful of them that could truly be described as being among the genre's best.

One of those shows that was based on a popular DC Comics character has been available to watch on Netflix for many years now. Sadly for any of that series' fans who would like to watch the show on that streaming service, time is running out as it is set to depart Netflix in the coming weeks.

On December 18, 2025, all 8 seasons of Arrow will be leaving Netflix in the United States. As of the time of this writing, that leaves anyone who wants to watch the DC Comics-inspired series only 29 more days to stream it on Netflix.

When Arrow leaves Netflix, it will be the first time in a long time that Netflix's American users won't be able to watch the show at all on the streaming service. That is the case because the superhero series made its Netflix debut more than a decade ago. A September 2014 Variety article reported that Arrow's first season would premiere on Netflix in October 2014.

While Arrow's Netflix tenure is coming to an end, there will continue be other superhero shows that will be available to watch on the streaming service. In fact, Netflix will still be the streaming home of several other superhero shows that followed in the departing show's footsteps, since other Arrowverse series will remain for years in some cases.

Still, it will be a shame for superhero fans who like watching high-quality comic book-inspired content on the streaming service. After all, Arrow has been regarded as one of the best superhero shows. In fact, an editorial Rotten Tomatoes article that listed the 100 best superhero shows ever named Arrow as the fourth best.

After more than a decade of Arrow being available to watch on Netflix in the United States, it became easy for fans to feel like that would never change. However, when a streaming service licenses the streaming rights for a show from another company, that will eventually end. In the case of Arrow departing Netflix, that is a situation that has been coming for a long time now.

A May 2019 Deadline article reported that Netflix's deal with The CW's parent companies, CBS and Warner Bros., was going to be allowed to expire. However, the terms of the deal stipulated that The CW's shows that Netflix had already licensed would remain on the streaming service until five years after their final seasons were added. After Arrow's series finale originally aired in 2020, it became available on Netflix that same year. That timing and the terms of the agreement are why the full series will be exiting the streaming service before 2025 ends.
