Baltimore Ravens, Orioles Stadium DJ Battling Cancer

0 1

Bob Popik, a longtime stadium DJ with MLB's Baltimore Ravens and NFL's Baltimore Ravens, is in the fight of his life.

The 59-year-old's family and friends have started a GoFundMe campaign as Popik battles with pancreatic cancer. According to the campaign, Popik has been diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer that has metastasized.

"Despite a difficult prognosis, Bob continues to fight with courage, humor, and grace, undergoing treatments to manage his pain and maintain his quality of life," the post shared.

The campaign goes on to note that, unfortunately, many of Popik's treatments and medications are not fully covered by his insurance, and thus "the financial burden has become overwhelming for Bob and his family as they navigate his care, and ongoing pain management."

As of this story's publication, the campaign has raised $25,207 of its $70,000 goal.

"Bob has entertained generations of listeners and brought joy to the community as a DJ for 43 years. Bob is especially proud of the work he did for his hometown teams, the Ravens and the Orioles," the post notes. "Bob has always been someone who brings light and laughter to others, and now it’s our turn to lift him up."

Popik, affectionately known as Bobby, Wheel, or Woody, first started working with the Orioles in 2000. He left the role this year. He joined the Ravens in 2010.

According to Parade, Popik's last game as M&T Bank Stadium's DJ came on Sept. 22 during a Monday Night Football game against the Detroit Lions, and he was hospitalized on Oct. 21.
