The Latest 1,000-Horsepower Porsche Isn't A Sports Car
Today, Porsche showed off two variants of its new electric Cayenne, aptly named the Cayenne Electric. The first bears the same name, but the Cayenne Turbo Electric really steals the show, thanks largely to its staggering power output: 1139 horsepower and 1106 pound-feet of torque. It's a factory SUV that'll run 9s in the quarter mile (a 9.9, to be pedantic), and certainly the fastest Cayenne yet.
Porsche's Turbo Model Makes The 400+ Base SUV Look Tame

With "just" 435 horsepower, the regular ol' Cayenne Electric sounds pretty tame in contrast. The 60 mph run will take almost twice as long (at 4.5 seconds,) and it'll only do a 13-second quarter-mile. Keep in mind that many of those figures are faster than previous 911s from less than 15 years ago.
Both are fed by the same battery pack, however. It's a 108-kilowatt-hour (kWh) unit with... some electric range. Porsche hasn't said yet, but with 800-volt electric architecture, both charge quickly and should manage a solid range figure. Porsche says both can charge at up to 400 kW via their North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging port. All told, it should take just 16 minutes to go from 10 percent battery to 80%.
Porsche Saves The Best Bits For The Turbo

Porsche gives the Turbo more than just more power. The range topper nets you 22-inch wheels with optional P Zero R tires that are a little wider (you'll need it) and Porsche's magic PASM air suspension system, which is also standard on the base car. The Turbo Electric also nets better regenerative braking, and can handle a claimed 97 percent of all braking while recuperating juice and feeding it back into the battery. There's also a standard locking rear diff and better cooling for its more powerful electric motors.
Turbo models also get some active aero, which the company calls Aero Blades. These extend rearward above 40 mph to help reduce the car's overall drag coefficient, helping range and efficiency. The Turbo also benefits from unique styling cues throughout.
It's Screens Galore In The Cayenne Electric
Porsche
The Cayenne Electric's initial design meetings probably looked a bit like the Don Draper pitch meme, with the word "SCREENS" (but in German) written on a whiteboard. The production car delivers, with a trio of absolutely massive screens dominating the dash. The center screen is the most notable, taking up 12.5 inches of center console with its curved shape. There's also a passenger screen for entertainment and navigation, as well as a more traditional driver's gauge cluster screen. Opt for said passenger display, and a single piece of glass spans from the center screen all the way over to the passenger air vents. Better buy a good screen protector.
The money? It's a lot. The Cayenne Electric starts at $111,350, and the Cayenne Turbo Electric starts at $165,350, with deliveries starting next summer.
