Jake Paul Finds New Opponent for December Boxing Match
A few weeks ago, Jake Paul was set to end the year with a boxing match against his most formidable opponent yet. Paul was set to face WBA champion Gervonta "Tank" Davis on November 14, but the fight was canceled after Davis' legal issues.
Paul released a statement expressing his disappointment in Davis and the cancellation of the fight, and his Most Valuable Promotions company noted that potential replacements were being discussed.
Two days before the original fight date, Paul has a new opponent with the same level of international boxing experience and pedigree.
Jake Paul's New Opponent
The social media star turned professional boxer is set to face former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. Sources tell Ring Magazine that the fight will take place next month in Miami, and it will be streamed live on Netflix.
Paul's fight with Davis was also going to stream on Netflix, and other notable fighters like Alycia Baumgardner and Gary Russell were set to compete. MMA legends Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman were also included in one of the undercard bouts.
Joshua last fought in September of 2024 and was knocked out in the fifth round of his bout with Daniel Dubois. He won an Olympic gold medal in his native Great Britain as an amateur, and defeated all-time great Wladimir Klitschko in one of the greatest fights of all time.
Joshua holds a professional record of 28-4, with 25 of his victories coming by way of knockout. The fight against Paul will be Joshua's first since undergoing elbow surgery earlier this year.
Paul Facing More Impressive Competiton
If Paul defeats Joshua, he will have beaten three former world champions in as many fights. He defeated Mike Tyson last year before a win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. this year. If the fight is finalized, it will be a co-promotion between Paul's Most Valuable Promotions and the British-based Matchroom Boxing, run by Eddie Hearn.
Joshua has more experience than Paul, especially as a heavyweight. Paul typically fights as a cruiserweight, moving up only once in his career for the fight against Tyson. Davis would have represented a major leap in competition after fights against older boxers out of their primes, and the same can be said for Joshua.
We'll see if Paul can extend his six-fight winning streak against one of the greatest heavyweights of the modern era in Joshua. Expect Paul and his promotional company to release details of the bout's date and time when it is officially finalized.
