What We Know About Sydney Sweeney's Charity Boxing Match

0 7

Sydney Sweeney is always one to immerse herself in every role she plays. That's proven to be no different after portraying legendary boxer Christy Martin for the upcoming biopic.

In fact, the 28-year-old Euphoria star was so immersed in playing the role of a legendary boxer that she's pondered giving up Hollywood and taking up boxing. While that may seem far-fetched, the idea of boxing is far from it, as she recently told SportsCasting in a recent interview that she seriously wants to get in the ring and go a few rounds.

Sweeney's Serious About Boxing

For charity, of course.

"There was a moment in the middle of filming where I was like, 'Should I give it all up and fight because I love this?'" she told SportsCasting. "Christy said she'd sign me up. So, this isn't as hypothetical as you actually think it is. Yeah, I'd totally do a charity bout, that'd be so sick."

The upcoming biopic has been more than a year in the making. Black Bear, in association with Sweeney's production company, Fifty Fifty Films, produced the film that made its world premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival in September.

The film, slated to hit theaters this Friday, stars Sweeney as Martin, America's most successful female boxer in the 1990s. She was the first woman to sign with iconic boxing promoter Don King, and the only female boxer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

While Martin enjoyed immense success in the ring (she was inducted into the prestigious Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame and International Boxing Hall of Fame), she endured domestic violence at the hands of her then-husband and former trainer, Jim Martin, who ultimately stabbed Martin in the torso and shot her at least once, leaving her for dead.

The film chronicles Martin's trial and tribulations, which ultimately concluded with Jim serving a 25-year prison sentence.

Who Will She Box?

Sweeney was asked about lining up a potential opponent, and she teased she might already have someone in mind.

"Who would I fight? It's a surprise. You'll have to wait," she told SportsCasting. "I'm serious. You gotta stay tuned for the pay-per-view and you'll see it."

She added, "I have some names that we can't throw out yet."

As for why she's serious about a bout in her future, Sweeney says one of her best attributes is that she "can take a punch" and that there's no quit in her.

Interestingly, Sweeney says some boxers have slid into her DMs.

"Nobody's offered to get me into the ring," she said. "I have gotten some interesting DMs from some boxers, though."
