Bruce Willis Faces 'Blessing and a Curse' as His Condition Worsens
Legendary actor Bruce Willis has been battling frontotemporal dementia (FTD) since his diagnosis back in 2023, but it doesn't sound like he is aware that he is battling a disease at all.
In a series of interviews promoting her new book, the actor’s wife, Emma Heming Willis, gave some heartbreaking updates about her husband's health as she revealed that his brain is “failing him” and that he no longer lives in the family home.
But as her husband continues to battle the debilitating brain disease and his family continues to make difficult decisions to care for him, the actor himself is not even aware of what's going on.
Willis' Brain is 'Failing Him'
During the interview with Diane Sawyer of ABC News, the actor’s wife revealed that while her husband is in “great health” physically, his brain is “failing him.”
“Bruce is still very mobile,” she said recently. “Bruce is in really great health overall, you know. It’s just his brain that is failing him.”
Emma Heming Willis revealed that the Die Hard actor’s ability to speak has started to deteriorate, forcing them to communicate in other ways.
“The language is going, and, you know, we’ve learned to adapt,” she said. “And we have a way of communicating with him, which is just a … different way.”
Willis Does Not Know He Has Dementia
Though the legendary actor's condition has continued to deteriorate, his wife says that Willis himself is not even aware that anything is wrong with his health.
During a recent interview with NewsNation, Emma Heming Willis revealed that her husband does not know that he is battling FTD, which she describes as a "blessing and a curse."
“The person doesn’t realize that they are experiencing a decline in their health. So it’s not denial; this is just a part of the disease,” Emma Heming Willis explained. “So, it’s a blessing and a curse. But I am grateful that Bruce never tapped into the idea that he had FTD.”
Heming Willis has previously explained that by the time he was diagnosed, he was unable to comprehend that he was battling the disease. So throughout his entire health battle, Willis has not known that anything was wrong.
Obviously, this might make things hard in some ways, but it sounds like his wife is actually grateful that he is not aware or afraid of anything that is happening to him.
