Kenny Chesney Breaks His Silence on Crying on Stage
Back in 2009, Kenny Chesney was on stage during a concert in Indianapolis when he "hit a wall" and began to cry on stage. Chesney has not spoken about the incident much publicly, but during a recent interview, he opened up a little bit about that time in his life and why he ultimately broke down on stage.
'Numb to it All'
During a recent interview with CBS "Sunday Morning," Chesney opened up about the moment he broke down on stage, revealing that he simply wasn't happy.
"You talk about kind of hitting a wall," CBS correspondent Lee Cowan asked Chesney during the interview.
"A big one," Chesney admitted.
"In that moment, I was so exhausted and numb to all of it that it wasn't making me happy. I wasn't creating the same way. I wasn't connecting to the audience, and it just hit me," Chesney said.
This is not the first time that Chesney has spoken about pulling himself out of dark mental spaces. During a recent interview with Holler magazine, he spoke a little bit about his mental health and how he believes the key is to "feel all of it."
"The truth is, that's everything life is, right? We all have trials, tough stuff, lose friends. We all have wins, great moments, crazy adventures. I think the reality is to feel all of it, to appreciate everything and to meet every experience where it is," he said at the time.
Country Music Legend
Chesney has long been considered one of the biggest names in country music, but he solidified his legendary status earlier this year when he was named to the Country Music Hall of Fame, something he never believed would happen.
"That’s just something you don’t dare to imagine," Chesney said last month in a press release. "I would never have even thought about being here because it’s almost too much. Just walking past so many of these bronzes, realizing how many are friends or whose music I’ve listened to my whole life. This is an honor that extends beyond anything my heart would dare think."
Needless to say, Chesney is a true icon of country music.
