Cause of Death Revealed for Latest Disney World Fatality
Police have confirmed the cause of death for the most recent fatality at Disney World, the third at the park in the last month.
Matthew Cohn, 28, died of "multiple traumatic injuries" after taking his own life at the Contemporary Resort last Thursday, the Orange County Medical Examiner's Office told the New York Post.
“At this time, we can confirm that the manner of death was ruled suicide; cause of death: multiple traumatic injuries,” a spokesperson for the office said.
Cohn was the second person to die by suicide at the Contemporary in a span of 10 days. On Oct. 14, a body was discovered near the resort and eventually identified as 31-year-old Summer Equitz.
Officials later ruled Equitz's death was a suicide after initial false social media reports that her body had been struck by the park's monorail.
Witnesses recall circumstances of Cohn's death
A video posted on TikTok last week showed yellow caution tape and a notable police presence outside the Bay Lake Tower, where Cohn's body was discovered, on Thursday morning.
"We woke up to a VERY large law enforcement outside our balcony this morning at Disney’s Bay Lake Tower," the caption for the post reads. "We were told it was a 'medical emergency.' Prayers to the family & those involved!"
Another guest wrote in the comments that hotel personnel knocked on their door and "told us not to look out the window and that there was a medical emergency."
WDWNT reported that there were "dozens" of police vehicles, along with a fire truck and ambulance on site, adding that "scaffolding and towel carts" had been put up to shield onlookers from the scene.
Three recent deaths at Disney
Last Tuesday, Oct. 21, two days before Cohn's death and one week after Equitz's, a man in his 60s also died while staying at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.
The man had a history of hypertension and end-stage liver disease, according to Inside the Magic. He was found unresponsive by his wife in their room.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office said the man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead and that there were “no signs of foul play.”
