'Family Matters' Star Darius McCrary Breaks His Silence on Recent Arrest
News broke on Oct. 10 of Family Matters star Darius McCrary's arrest near the U.S.-Mexico border. This is his third arrest was in relation to unpaid child support, with the actor's rep, Ann Barlow, calling it a "misunderstanding."
The actor was arrested due to an out-of-state felony charge for failure to appear in court over unpaid child support owed to his ex-wife, Tammy Brawner. He was charged with four felony counts and, according to prosecutors, owes $95,000 in back support.
A bench warrant was originally issued in June 2024 when McCrary reportedly missed a scheduled hearing. The 49-year-old actor later asked the Michigan court to drop the warrant.
According to a statement to US Weekly, the actor's rep claims he was never properly notified of the scheduled court date.
"He did not receive the mailed notice to a PO box, miles from his residence, that is not checked daily," Barlow said.
He further adds that his Los Angeles address is already on file. His rep also claims the actor's lawyer was not given proper notice.
She also believed the actor's "due process" was violated with the actor haveing less than nine days notice about the hearing. They also claim McCrary had immediately contacted the court after receiving the notice a day late.
McCrary’s filings also detail his absence due to health and family obligations. He states that he had to take care of his mother in June 2024, while having also contracted COVID himself.
The rep also claims the Oakland County court has "railroaded" the actor and has not taken into account the support given directly to the actor's son.
Online records tag the McCrary as a fugitive after the arrest, and is being held without bond. He is currently scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday, October 15.
