Stephen Colbert Lands New Gig Amid 'Late Show' Cancellation

Stephen Colbert's days behind the desk at CBS's The Last Show With Stephen Colbert are winding down, but the host isn't slowing down as he just landed a new gig.

Colbert has been tapped to voice the Digital Dean on Paramount+'s Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. His character will deliver announcements to students.

The series -- which is set to release in January 2026 -- has already been renewed for a second season.

"Greetings and felicitations, New York Comic-Con," the comedian said in a recorded announcement. "Tis I, Stephen Colbert. Folks, I'm sorry I couldn't be with you in person today, but I'm a perfectionist and I just didn't have enough bunting for my Mugato cosplay. However, nothing could stop me from sharing this exciting news."

He continued, "I am honored to announce that my beautiful voice will be joining Star Trek: Starfleet Academy as the Digital Dean of Students, where I'll get to announce things like, 'Attention Ensign Krebs, you Talaxian Furfly has exited the replicator and is now mating with itself."

He went on to say that he is "thrilled" at the opportunity, joking that he's excited to not have to "spend four hours in hair and makeup every day."

Colbert -- while not appearing on screen -- joins stars Paul Giamatti, Tig Notaro, Holly Hunter and Robert Picardo.

His long-running late night show was cancelled by CBS in July. The iconic series, which first premiered with host David Letterman, will officially come to an end in May 2026.
