'Peacemaker' Season 2 Finale Was Painfully Close to Unexpected Marvel Crossover

0 8

The finale of Peacemaker Season 2 has now come and gone, leaving many fans with questions about the show's future and curious about a few cameos that appeared throughout the season. While DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn has stated that characters from the show Peacemaker will indeed be seen in other projects upcoming in the future, he’s been noncommittal on the show‘s future as a whole. He also dropped one unique tidbit about a potential Marvel crossover that nearly happened in the season finale of Peacemaker.

When asked if he’s planning a Season 3 for Peacemaker, Gunn admitted that he’s not, but to “never say never,” as The Screen Brief detailed.

“No. This is about the wider DCU and other stories in which this will play out right now,” Gunn said. “That doesn’t mean there won’t be a third season, never say never, but right now, no. This is about the future of the DCU. And Peacemaker’s still an important character.”

Not surprisingly, any crossover between Marvel and DC Studios in the Peacemaker Season 2 finale would have admittedly been a mind-blowing moment for fans. The fact that it nearly included Ryan Reynolds’ popular Deadpool character makes it even more incredible to think about.

As Gunn told The Screen Brief, he wanted a Deadpool cameo and Reynolds wanted to do it as well, but there were too many hoops to jump through.

“Yeah, I wanted them to open a door and see Deadpool in a room,” Gunn admitted. “And I talked to Ryan Reynolds about it, but I think we would have had to go through some pretty big hoops to do that. [Ryan] wanted to do it!”

“Ah, that’s all anyone’s going to talk about now, is Deadpool. [Regretfully…] I should never have said it.”

Gunn isn’t wrong in the fact that a near-cameo from Deadpool is going to make major headlines, with it being even more noteworthy as a possible Marvel-DC Studios crossover moment. Unfortunately, things didn’t pan out, but it seems apparent that Gunn is open to the idea of making something along these lines happen down the road.

James Gunn Discusses Future of John Cena’s Peacemaker Character

While the show Peacemaker itself has become a favorite of many fans, John Cena's work in the role has been highly praised. With Season 3 of Peacemaker still very much up in the air, questions have arisen about what this could mean for Cena specifically and his Peacemaker character.

Gunn addressed that topic as well during a conversation with The Screen Brief, and admitted that Peacemaker is “important, really important.”

“Yes. He’s important. He’s really important to me,” Gunn said. “Peacemaker is an important character. I said from the beginning when I took on this job. It’s about really maintaining and re-positioning the big diamond properties that DC has, like Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. And then, it’s about creating diamond properties out of the smaller characters, like Peacemaker.”

Gunn laughed while calling the potential of Peacemaker returning in Supergirl or Man of Tomorrow a “secret,” so it’s anyone’s guess how quickly fans can expect to see Cena back to reprise the popular role.
