Family of Man Who Allegedly Stabbed Mark Sanchez Breaks Silence

0 4

Former NFL quarterback and current FOX analyst Mark Sanchez was involved in a serious altercation with a truck driver this weekend in Indianapolis, and both men emerged from the incident with injuries.

Sanchez and the truck driver were both hospitalized, with many outlets reporting that Sanchez had been stabbed. Images surfaced of the truck driver's injuries, showing him wearing a neck brace in a hospital bed with a long laceration across his face.

Following the reveal of his injuries, the family of the truck driver is speaking out about the incident, and they're offering an update on his condition.

Truck Driver's Family Speaks Out for the First Timed

"He's OK," the man's family said while speaking to the New York Post. "We are talking to lawyers first. We want to be careful what’s said. We appreciate that."

The incident occurred early on Sunday morning in Indianapolis, where Sanchez was initially set to call the Raiders-Colts game. The former New York Jet went to the hospital but was arrested later that day following an inquiry of authorities.

The ex-USC Trojan was charged with three misdemeanors, battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. Sanchez allegedly accosted the driver as he backed into a loading dock, and the truck driver sprayed Sanchez in the face with pepper spray as things escalated.

"This incident should never have happened," said Marion County (IN) prosecutor Ryan Mears.

"What began as a disagreement between a 38-year-old former professional athlete and a 69-year-old man should not have escalated into violence or left anyone seriously injured. As with any case, we will follow the facts and the law wherever they lead."

What Happened Between Sanchez and the Driver?

After pulling his knife, the truck driver allegedly stabbed Sanchez, swinging his knife and striking Sanchez "two or three times." In response, the driver said that he was thrown against a dumpster and feared for his life during the incident with Sanchez.xd

The affidavit says that Sanchez did not recall who stabbed him or where it happened, but it appears that he will face legal ramifications as well. Authorities announced on Monday that Sanchez is facing a Level 5 felony battery charge, which carries a one-to-five year sentence if convicted.

Sanchez played eight NFL seasons after starring as the starting quarterback for the USC Trojans in college. He spent most of his career with the New York Jets, who selected him No. 5 overall back in 2009. In his first two seasons, he helped the Jets reach the AFC Championship game - a feat they haven't accomplished since.
