Over 98,000 Children's Toys Recalled Due to Toxic Lead Concerns (

0 1

More than 98,000 children's toys sold at several different major stores nationwide have been recalled due to a possible lead poisoning risk.

On Thursday, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that In Motion Design Inc., of Paramount, California has executed a recall on Evermore Surprise Eggs sold at 7-Eleven, Horizon, Murphy and Speedway stores around the country between March and April of this year.

The eggs, which are gold and packaged in yellow, pink or green wrap, contain seven different types of toys, including a toy airplane, which is the reason for the recall.

"The toy airplane inside the egg contains levels of lead that exceed the federal lead content ban," the notice said. "Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health issues."

You can find pictures of the product, which is manufactured in China, here.

What to do if you bought this toy

The CPSC recommends all consumers who purchased the Evermore Surprise Eggs to stop using them immediately and contact In Motion Design for a refund.

"Consumers should destroy the toy airplane, send a photo of the destroyed airplane to support@in-motion-design.com, and then dispose of the airplane in accordance with local and state laws," reads the official CPSC notice.

The positive news is that while the concern about lead toxicity is worrisome, no injuries or illnesses caused by this product have been reported at this time.

What to know about lead poisoning

According to the Mayo Clinic, lead poisoning typically builds up in the body over an extended period of time, possibly months or years.

"Children younger than 6 years are especially vulnerable to lead poisoning, which can severely affect mental and physical development," the Mayo Clinic writes. "At very high levels, lead poisoning can be fatal."

Symptoms of lead poisoning can include developmental delay, irritability, loss of appetite, learning issues, weight loss, fatigue, seizures and more.
