Dollywood Owners Permanently Close Two Amusement Parks

Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation, the company who owns Dolly Parton's Dollywood, announced they are shutting down two of their amusement parks.

Malibu Norcross and Mountasia, both located in Georgia, have been permanently shut down after decades in business.

Malibu Norcross was an arcade and go-kart amusement center in Gwinnet County.

"Thank you to our incredible community, hosts, and guests for making Malibu Norcross a place to create timeless memories for more than 20 years!" the company announced last month.

Mountasia was a Marietta go-kart, mini-golf and family fun park.

Herschend acquired Palace Entertainment's, the former parent company of Mountasia, Malibu Norcross and 22 other parks, earlier this year. At the time of purchase, Herschand owned 49 properties, including Dollywood.

"This is a landmark moment—not just for Herschend, but for every host, guest, and community we serve," Andrew Wexler, CEO of Herschend, said at the time. "To us, this is so much bigger than adding attractions to our portfolio of family brands—growth is about people. It’s about creating a great place to work so our hosts love what they do and can create memories worth repeating for our guests for generations to come."

Herschand purchased Goldrush Junction, a small theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in 1976. A decade later, Dolly Parton became a co-owner, and the park was renamed.

The singer, along with Herschand, also owns Dolly Parton's Stampede and Dollywood's Splash Country.
