The National Football League is mourning the death of Arthur Jones, who suddenly died on Friday morning. He was 39.
Jones' alma mater, Syracuse University, announced the tragic news. The Baltimore Ravens, where he spent his first four seasons, later issued a statement, though neither the school nor the organization revealed the cause of death.
"Arthur's presence was a gift to everyone he encountered," said Ravens GM Eric DeCosta in a statement posted on X. "His big, bright smile, infectious energy and eternal positivity created a presence that continuously uplifted others."
He added, "He was kind, courteous, enthusiastic — always displaying a love for family, teammates, and friends."
Jones, the older brother of UFC legend Jon Jones, was the 157th overall pick (fifth round) in the 2010 NFL Draft out of Syracuse. The defensive end played his first four seasons with the Ravens.

He famously sacked San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick before a power outage brought Super Bowl XLVII to a halt at the Superdome in New Orleans. He proved integral in that game, forcing a fumble. John Harbaugh and the Ravens went on to beat Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers, 34-31.
Jones went on to play with the Indianapolis Colts and the then-Washington Redskins. He finished his career with 173 total tackles and 10 sacks.
RIP.
