‘Peaky Blinders’ Scores Two-Season Sequel Order at Netflix and BBC

A new generation of Shelbys is coming to Netflix and the BBC, as they announced Peaky Blinders is getting a two-season order for a sequel series installment. It marks the start of a new chapter of the beloved series helmed by creator and writer Steven Knight, with Cillian Murphy joining as an executive producer.

"I'm thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride," Knight said in a statement on Thursday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The two new seasons will be comprised of six episodes each, and will pick up after the events of the continuing movie installment, The Immortal Man, that takes place during the Second World War.

When it comes to what the two new seasons of Peaky Blinders will be about, a synopsis reveals that fans are headed back to Birmingham and will meet more than a few new characters.

"Britain, 1953. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel. In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger, with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart," read the synopsis.

No official release date has been announced, but production is expected to start in Birmingham, with Banijay UK’s Kudos and Garrison Drama as producers. Besides Murphy, Karen Wilson, Martin Haines, Jamie Glazebrook, Jo McClellan, Qureshi, and Toby Bentley will also serve as executive producers.

Peaky Blinders aired on the BBC in September 2013 and ran for six seasons. It later gained a resurgence when it premiered on Netflix. The Immortal Man sees the return of Murphy in his titular role as Thomas Shelby and is expected to be released sometime next year
