Former NFL Quarterback Jay Cutler Begins Jail Sentence for DUI

0 9

Jay Cutler is serving some time behind bars, as the former NFL quarterback begins a four-day jail sentence in Franklin, Tennessee. The jail sentence came after pleading guilty to one count of misdemeanor DUI from a traffic incident that occurred in 2024.

According to The New York Post, the 42-year-old was booked into the Williamson County Jail on Monday to end his DUI case. As part of a deal with prosecutors, Cutler's 4-day sentence dismissed a weapons charge that arose during the initial traffic incident.

In October 2024, the former Broncos, Dolphins, and Bears quarterback rear-ended another vehicle. When police arrived on the scene, Cutler appeared intoxicated and was slurring his speech. He also refused to take a field sobriety test, but did take a blood sample at the hospital.

Police found two firearms while searching his vehicle, one of which was loaded. As a result, Cutler was initially charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving that caused a crash, violating implied consent laws, and possessing a firearm while intoxicated.

He was also subjected to a $350 fine and a year of unsupervised probation. The pro footballer would also have to attend DUI safety classes and his license suspended for a year.

With Cutler having pleaded guilty to the charge and being sentenced to time in jail, prosecutors dropped the firearms charge.

Cutler is not only known for his 12-year NFL career, but his messy divorce from television personality Kristin Cavallari. The two were married from 2013 to 2020, sharing three children. Their split made headlines for its contentious back-and-forth over custody, finances, and public digs, keeping the former couple in the spotlight long after their marriage ended.

The footballer started his NFL career in 2006 with the Denver Broncos before moving to the Chicago Bears in 2009. He finished his run with the Miami Dolphins in 2017.
