Why We Love This Deal

Boot season is upon us, and a pair of crisp Dr. Martens is one style that will never go out of style. Why? Few kinds of boots are more versatile or timeless, especially during the fall-to-spring stretch, and they also do very well once the weather takes a turn for the wetter. Though the brand's most iconic styles rarely see any kind of markdown, the monochromatic 1460 just dipped in price at Zappos, and it's selling fast.

The Dr. Martens 1460 Mono Boot is just $128 at Zappos right now, more than $40 less than their normal $170 price tag. That’s the lowest price we could find online, one that even the manufacturer has yet to match.

What Shoppers Should Know

  • Material: Leather upper with a smooth finish, can be cleaned and polished, and left to build up a nice patina from regular use
  • Sizes available: 4-14
  • Heel height: 1.25 inches
  • Sole: Air-cushioned rubber sole that’s oil and fat-resistant with good abrasion and slip resistance

The 1460 is the closest existing model today to the very first boot Dr. Martens made in the UK, and it’s been in production for 65 years. One thing has remained the same, though—when you’re wearing them, the air-cushioned "bouncing" soles make them plenty comfortable.

Its eight eyelets, Goodyear welting, prominent heel tab, and thick rubber sole make it instantly recognizable. The much newer mono version is a sleeker take, with color-matched stitching and none of the brand’s trademark yellow. It’s a great choice for someone who wants the quality of the brand but not the vibrancy of the yellow.

What Reviewers Are Saying

Lots of reviewers mentioned how stiff these boots are when they arrived, but also how easy they are to break in. “These have really broken in after only two or three wears,” one reviewer wrote. Twenty years after their last pair, they called these “some of the most comfortable Martens I have owned.” Considering how good they look, it’s great news that your feet won’t have to suffer for beauty.

The all-black look of these boots also earned a lot of love. “I like the old school style without the traditional yellow stitching that DMs normally use.” They added that what also makes these “great boots” is how (somewhat deceptively) comfortable they are: “You will appreciate them when broken in, and they last forever.”

The Dr. Martens 1460 Mono Bootdoesn’t have all of the obvious markers of a pair of Docs, but its comfort, quality, and timeless silhouette mean it's unmistakably a classic. Saving 25% on a shoe this beautiful is not an opportunity to be missed, particularly on the cusp of the time of year during which this boot can really shine.
