'Tron: Ares' Trailer Recaps 43 Years in 3 Minutes. But One Thing Is Still Missing
Time to return to the Grid! In a new, very nostalgic trailer, Tron: Ares not only gives a sneak peek at the new film but also gives a full recap of the entire Tron saga from the perspective of Kevin Flynn, as played by the legendary Jeff Bridges.
But, as cool as the new trailer is, this recap still excludes one crucial element of the Tron mythos. That is to say, this Tron recap lacks a certain character named "Tron."
New Tron: Ares "Flynn Lives" Trailer
The new trailer for Tron: Ares is actually a condensed recap of the whole series, starting with the 1982 series that started it all. We see Flynn (Bridges) back when he was young, running his arcade, a game designer at the top of the world. The narration for the first part of the trailer is actually taken from Tron: Legacy (2010), and the movie, very quickly, transitions to scenes from that film, before showing us the new conflict in Ares.
As in Legacy, Flynn appears to exist as an AI program version of his human self. But, this time — as previous trailers have teased — the world of the Grid is invading the "real world" of living, flesh and blood, humans.

Tron: Ares still doesn't reveal Tron himself
It's easy to forget, but the word "Tron" actually refers to a security program from the first film, who was played by Bruce Boxleitner. In the original movie, Boxleitner also plays the human Alan Bradley, a straight-laced programmer who created Tron. Boxleitner appeared as both the older version of Alan and as a different version of Tron in Tron: Legacy, but will he be in Tron: Ares?
So far, none of the trailers have revealed if Boxleitner is in the film, either as Bradley or as Tron. To be fair, 15 years ago, in 2010, Tron: Legacy didn't reveal if Tron was in the movie either. It wasn't until halfway through the film, when it was revealed that Tron had been morphed into the Rinzler, that Tron had been turned into a villain.
But what about this time? Is Jarde Leto's Ares secretly a new version of Tron? Will Boxleitner show up after all? There's not much time left to find out. Tron: Ares hits theaters on October 10, 2025.
