KÜHL Silencr Kargo Shorts Review

0 6

I think I may have found my new favorite shorts for canoeing, and they are the KÜHL Silencr Kargo Shorts. Earlier this year, KÜHL sent over a pair for review, and I’ve been using them often since then. If you are looking for the gist of this review, it’s I like them and recommend them. I’m going to dive in below for more details.

The Silencr Kargo Shorts are cargo short from KÜHL’s men’s shorts category. They offer a slim fit with low-profile pockets that appear hidden but extend across the entire front of the pants. Each are big enough to hold two smartphones plus extra gear. For an idea of size, a National Geographic map fits fine in one even with the zipper closed. On the inside of the pockets, they are mesh so that there isn’t a double layer of fabric making the shorts hotter there.

There are also two slide-in back pockets and two front hand pockets with horizontal openings that keep whatever you have in your pockets from sliding out while sitting in a canoe or kayak. There’s also an additional cell pocket on the rear side of the short.

The fabric is a lightweight, water resistant ripstop that stretches as you move. It also offers UPF 50+ sun protection. The crotch is gusseted, and there’s a soft fabric that lines the waistband. The water resistant fabric does a good job of keeping paddle splashes from soaking into the short. Most of the time, the water just beads up and slides off or can be brushed off without it soaking in.

Garage Grown Gear is a Minnesota-based online store that sells lightweight gear from small and cottage brands. They carry a lot of hard-to-find and unique gear.

Like you’d expect with KÜHL, the construction is great. The waist closes with a button instead of a snap, and all the zippers are made by YKK, which in my opinion make the best zippers. I expect I’ll get years of use out of these shorts just like I have with the other clothing that I have from KÜHL.

The shorts come in sizes running from 28 to 42 and three inseam length choices: 8, 10, and 12. I went with the 8-inch inseam and find that length is above the knees where I like it. On me, the sizing is a little off. I’m almost always a 35-inch waist size, and that’s what I got. I think I’d go with 36 if I was getting these again. Other than that, the fit is great.

If you’re looking for a new pair of short for canoeing, I can highly recommend the KÜHL Silencr Kargo Shorts.
