Sebastian Completes 12-Mile Paddle for BBC Children in Need
On Sunday 14th July, 10-year-old Kingston Kayak Club paddler Sebastian Coultas completed an extraordinary challenge — paddling 12 miles on the River Hull to raise money for BBC Children in Need.
Starting at North Frodingham Landing, Sebastian paddled upstream to Brigham Bridge, then turned south, passing under Bethell’s Bridge, portaging Hempholme Lock, continuing past the nature reserve, and finishing at The Crown & Anchor in Tickton.
Total time on the water: 4 hours 34 minutes
Moving time: 3 hours 30 minutes, with breaks for snacks, lunch, and comfort stops.
Sebastian made excellent progress through the first 6 miles, but it was the second half of the route that became a true test of resilience. Tired arms made it a tough finish, but Sebastian pushed through with determination and focus, completing the challenge with great spirit.
Supported Every Step of the Way
Sebastian was joined on the water by his coaches Adi Clark and Andy Davies, who paddled alongside him for safety and encouragement. Fellow junior paddler Sam Clark also completed the full 12-mile route and deserves a special mention for his impressive effort.
At the finish line, Sebastian was greeted by his supporters and received a warm welcome from the team at The Crown & Anchor, who provided fantastic hospitality, including well-earned food, drinks, and ice creams.
