Chasing trout on the Ausable river

0 2

Jeff and I headed to the Adirondacks to fly fish for some trout before the season closes until next spring. Our destination was the twisty, rocky West Arm of the Ausable river between Lake Placid and Wilmington NY. Brown trout were the order of the day and I was throwing dry flies well Jeff was going to the river bottom on his nymphing setup. Jeff caught quite a few fish and I was happy to land a big Brown plus shoot many photos.

Spending time on the waters and the high peaks of this region of the Adirondacks is so special to me. I truly feel alive when I visit this place. The weather was amazing and the Adirondacks were in full Autumn colour, literally peaking. We put in a solid eight hours of hiking and fishing on Saturday, legs were definitely worn out by the time we got back to our campsite at Wilmington Notch State Park. Supper in the dark before crashing for the night.

On the way home Sunday we stopped at the Chateaugay river for a few hours of fishing. There are fish on this water for sure, a few were caught but I personally prefer the Ausable river.
