Getting Into Marathon

0 11

The Kingston Kayak Club excited about the upcoming Derwent Marathon 2024 – The Mike Jones Memorial Marathon. This event is set to take place on Sunday, 16th June.

In anticipation of the marathon, we recently held our first Lightning session on the outdoor pool. This session was designed to introduce our junior paddlers to the thrill and speed of these superfast kayaks. The enthusiasm and energy displayed by our young participants were truly inspiring!

The Derwent Marathon is a tribute to Dr. Mike Jones, a leading Yorkshire paddler. The races will be held at the Environment Agency site at Barmby on the Marsh. The River Derwent, with its gentle flow and meandering course, provides the perfect setting for this event.

The marathon features races over distances of 2, 4, 8, and 12 miles, catering to paddlers of all skill levels. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a beginner, there’s a race for everyone!

Moreover, we believe that every race is a personal. Even if you don’t wish to compete, you can treat the course as a leisurely tour, paddling at your own pace and soaking in the beauty of the surroundings.

For more information and to register for the event, please visit our website here. We look forward to seeing you at the Derwent Marathon 2024.
