In Mid January Charles Moffett rallied with Luke Hoets & Tristan Bernstein to the Orange River. The mission was to paddle the Onseepkans Gorge. They had heard stories of this section resembling the Zambezi, stories of massive undercuts and siphons, of whirlpools and huge boils. The river was at 800 cubics, all this water crashing through the gorge created a semi-continuous Grade 5 section of Whitewater for over a kilometer. Luckily for them, the siphons and undercuts were hidden because of the high water (ignorance is indeed bliss). Onseepkan’s stark desert beauty is something incredible to behold.
