Bubugo Banana Kayak School, Uganda

0 7

Kayaking development project at the source of the White Nile in Bubugo village.

BBKS is a charity kayak school located on the river bank of the mighty White Nile river, next to the famous Super Hole in rural Bubugo village, Uganda East Africa founded by Slovenian paddler Filip Tomazic. The school has been successfully operating for the last two years and gives thirty local kids the opportunity to learn how to kayak. River and climate are offering world class conditions for freestyle kayaking. However, due to poverty and low income (in rural areas 1$ per day per adult worker) There is no way kids can afford the equipment or lesson fee.

The project was started from scratch, and Filip believes this is still the beginning. Thanks to the supportive local community back in Europe the project became a little more known and  kayak brands and retailers also donated equipment. Currently the school has; six kayaks, six paddles and all the necessary equipment to make kayaking safe. Is also covered the monthly cost of room rent for storing kayaking gear, and coach Bosco Kawereiku’s salary.
Filip hopes the documentary will help us take the next step forward with our plan for the project.

Help support the school through their crowdfunding campaign: support young Ugandan kayakers!
