Away on the torridge

0 4
Having recently got back Into a canoe and moved to Instow, North Devon thought it would be rude to not take a little time out and re explore The Torridge.

I'd heard great things about the Yeo tributary above Bideford and with a great forecast got Mrs Gymwear to drop me above Bideford at "Little America" layby's on the Torrington road for the last of a rising tide.

Paddled up towards the Tarka Trail bridge above bideford and then took a right up the Yeo tributary.. was somewhat less impressed than had been billed by friends. Maybe due to the amount of flotsam that had beaten me up there!

After 30mins turned around and decided to head further upstream towards Torrington to then find a spot and have tea and toast on the Kelly kettle.

By about 10am tide was heading out so time to grab a free ride back down the estuary. All was good passing through Bideford and the arches of the old bridge...

until...arriving at the "New Bridge" the wind turned against me for an hour until I was under the shelter of the east bank. All good exercise non-the-less.

Another brew stop and then 20 minutes back to Instow.

A great door step adventure.
