Across Lake Malawi - Dispatch No. 1, three weeks into Ross Exler's solo expedition to cross all of Africa's Great Lakes, unsupported entirely under human power
Lake Malawi is over 350 miles long, over 2,300 feet deep, and likely contains the greatest biodiversity of fishes of any lake in the world. My goal would be to enchain it and Africa's other Great Lakes (Lake Tanganyika, Lake Victoria) using no motorized power, and without a support team of any kind, contending with rough water, thunderstorms, crocodiles, and hippos, not to mention the tropical cyclone which, as of writing, is forming off of Madagascar.
