Muay Thai fighter explains why Wonder Woman’s costume isn’t practical for fighting

Model and Muay Thai fighter Mia Kang spoke about why Wonder Woman’s outfit isn’t practical for actual fighting.

Wonder Woman is currently showing on cinemas, and is one of the more highly acclaimed films D.C. has released as of late. The movie casts Gal Gadot as Diana Prince, a daughter of Zeus who was raised by Amazonians.

If you’ve already watched the highly entertaining film, (slight Spoiler warning) there’s a scene where Diana criticizes the normal outfits of women because it isn’t practical for fighting. Interestingly enough, that’s the same exact comments a Muay Thai fighter made about her Wonder Woman costume.

Mia Kang, a swimsuit model who is 1-0 in Muay Thai — and was recently featured on the MMA Hour, spoke to Racked about the practicality of Wonder Woman’s attire.

“Her bodysuit looks amazing, but it’s made of like really thick leather,” Kang said. “I don’t think it would actually be practical to twist — or if she did some kicks and stuff, I don’t think that would be functional.”

“If you actually fought in leather, like running across a battlefield, it would be sweaty. That would lead to some rash-y chafing situation. It wouldn’t be cute, that’s for sure.”

The aspiring MMA fighter also pointed out how Wonder Woman is busting heads with her hair down.

“I think that any female fighter can tell you that they’ve never had a fight with their hair down. The last thing you want is anything blocking your vision, or like taking hair out of your mouth when you’re in the middle of a fight.

“I definitely think that priority number one was hotness, as opposed to functionality. She seems to need the sex appeal, when Wonder Woman shouldn’t need the sex appeal.”

For what it’s worth, these statements aren’t really just for Wonder Woman. Creators of comic book superheroes always do prioritize looks over functionalities, and extreme visuals are a main part of the industry. If everyone was practical, no one would have capes... or wear underwear over their pants. And don’t get me started on how Batman can’t even turn his neck properly on his thick uncomfortable suit.

Plus, Wonder Woman is a god who isn’t affected by bullets or bombs, so I don’t think chafing would really be an issue.
