Jose Aldo's coach: 'It's hard to get', but we have a 'plan' for Conor McGregor rematch

Aldo's coach says they have a 'plan' for securing a rematch with McGregor.

According to Jose Aldo's long time coach and mentor Andre Pederneiras, the goal has always been a rematch with UFC sensation Conor McGregor.

Aldo, who ruled as UFC featherweight champion for four years, was dethroned by 'The Notorious' in just thirteen seconds at UFC 194. McGregor knocked out 'Scarface' in stunning fashion, capturing the featherweight title and then announcing his move up to the lightweight division, where he now reigns as champ.

Aldo, the formerly ranked No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, hoped to secure a rematch with a win over Frankie Edgar at UFC 200, but things didn't go according to plan.

After beating Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt at UFC 205, McGregor started campaigning for a boxing megafight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., leaving Aldo, again, without his desired rematch. Given his absence from the 145-pound division, McGregor was stripped of the title and Aldo was reinstated as the official champion, and the Brazilian will now defend the belt against interim champ Max Holloway at UFC 212.

Aldo is currently focused on beating 'Blessed', but coach Pederneiras says the plan has 'always' been to secure a rematch with McGregor.

"I can't say it before the fight, but we have a plan," Pederneiras told Brett Okamoto of ESPN.com when asked about a potential lightweight fight against McGregor.

"Always. Always," he said of Aldo's motivations for a rematch. "We want a fight with Conor McGregor. But it's hard to get. We know that. We know he doesn't ever want to fight Aldo again. Maybe in boxing. Maybe he'd accept a boxing match. When we were meeting with Dana, he told us, 'Conor does not want to fight you. I tried everything to put him in to a fight with you. I can't put a gun to his head.' That's the word, from Dana to us. Dana told that to Aldo, directly."

The Nova Uniao founder says that, given Aldo's accomplishments and the caliber of opponents he's beaten, the MMA veteran deserves a rematch.

"I think Aldo has done a lot for this sport. Aldo beat them for so long and did everything right. He's a good kid. He don't talk s--- about anybody. All the time, he's helping people. He's a good guy. Maybe this sport does not like good guys. But just in the sport, not the marketing side of it, I think Aldo deserves his rematch more than any champion that has ever been before him. He lost the title, came back and fought a great fighter like Frankie Edgar, accepted a title defense against Max Holloway who is really, really good, and then before that, he challenged the guy that nobody - nobody -- wants to fight at 155, and that's Khabib. He's done everything he can to deserve this rematch with Conor."

If Aldo hopes to get McGregor's attention, the 30-year-old must beat Holloway at UFC 212. The pay-per-view, which features Aldo vs. Holloway as the main event, takes place this Saturday, June 3 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
