‘Campbell won’t fight again’: Ricky Hatton says son has retired
Campbell Hatton will reportedly pursue a future in solar panel installation rather than professional fighting.
As Ricky Hatton prepares to make his return from retirement at age 46 later this year, he says that his son, Campbell Hatton, will no longer continue a fighting career after back-to-back defeats to James Flint last year.
Hatton admits that his son didn’t have much of an amateur boxing background to begin with but gave things a go at both the amateur and professional level, with it now being time for his to put his focus and effort elsewhere.
“No, Campbell won’t fight again,” Ricky Hatton, who will ironically return to boxing in December, told Boxing Now when asked about his son’s future.
Hatton also mentioned that the passing of one of Campbell’s friends in recent months has noticeably impacted him as well, which is part of why he advised him to call it quits.
“I said, ‘Listen son, you should be very proud of yourself, you have given it a go, but if you have lost your mojo, you need to get out’. You can’t play boxing, you can play any other sport. So I advised him, and now he is doing solar panels.”
While it’s uncommon for a retirement announcement to come in such a manner as this, if Campbell Hatton is indeed done with boxing he leaves the sport with a record of 14-2 (5 KOs), and while never made made it to the top of the domestic level we wish him all the best in future endeavors.
