‘People don’t realize I’m a real killer’: Jake Paul says he deserves respect for his boxing accolades
Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr talk about their PPV fight tomorrow.
For whatever reason Piers Morgan is becoming a mandatory landing spot for promoting fights as of late, and the upcoming fight between Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is no different. Both fighters appeared on Piers’ show yesterday to discuss their Saturday fight on DAZN PPV.
The segment started with Piers interviewing Chavez Jr, specifically asking him if he can knock Paul out for the benefit of the world.
“Yes, of course,” Chavez Jr would say. “I’m ready to put him down and I’m super ready.”
When Chavez Jr was then asked about whether or not he considers Paul to be a ‘real boxer’, a seemingly distracted/uninterested Chavez Jr had this response.
“Ummm...[long pause]...What’s your question again?” Chavez Jr would ask. “I think he’s a good fighter, not great fighter. He tried to be a good one but he’s not already a good fighter so it’s okay.
“I think for the first time [he’s] fighting a real boxer so I want to test him and I want to find out if he’s good or not.”
Later in the interview Piers would ask Chavez Jr if he will retire for good if he loses to Paul.
“I’m much better than him so I don’t want to thinking retirement and loss, so I’m for sure going to win the fight. I’m better than him and I put everything in its place.”
Of course things really turned up a notch when Paul’s segment began, and with Piers’ obvious lack of respect for Paul’s boxing career, it wasn’t long before things got a little contentious. Piers would press Paul on the pathetic spectacle that was his last fight against an elderly Mike Tyson before pointing out that Canelo believes he would actually kill him if they ever fought.
“He’s a 5’8” little peon. If we’re in the streets I would grab that little ginger and smack him upside the head and make him forget who the f-ck he was,” Paul would respond. “People don’t realize I’m a real killer. I really f-ckin’ do this shit.
“This sh-t is not a joke,” Paul continued. “I’m knocking out the best of the best, beating all of these people time and time again and it’s about time that you old heads and all these f-ckin boxers who think they know about the sport put some respect on my name.”
Piers would come back by taking aim at Paul’s resume, saying the only ‘proper boxer’ he ever faced was Tommy Fury and he lost that fight.
“Golden Gloves champion Andre August, Brian Borland as well, Anderson Silva was an undefeated boxer. I mean, you can sit there and make up sh-t but you actually don’t know your facts. I’ve fought multiple boxers with professional records and including Mike Tyson himself who I think is going to be a harder fight than Chavez.”
Piers would then go on to insist that Paul would’ve gotten obliterated by a prime version of Tyson.
“I think the problem here, Piers, is that you think that your opinion matters,” Paul said. “I’m just taking your audience to sell PPVs, I don’t give a f-ck about your show, dumbass. This is a f-ckin’ business enterprise. Buy the PPV on Saturday, June 28th,” Paul would say before abruptly hanging up the video call on Piers.
