‘I’m focused on winning a fight’: Kambosos not reading into verbal altercations with Hitchins
George Kambosos believes Richardson Hitchins is killing himself to make weight and that’s causing him act out.
Just a few days away from his next shot at a major world title, George Kambosos Jr talks to Fight Hype about this most recent press conference with Richardson Hitchins, believing Hitchins to be distracted by the wrong things, and looking to recreate the magic he had from his win over Teofimo Lopez. Here are a few excerpts.
Kambosos on getting into a verbal altercation with Hitchins at their recent press event
“Yesterday got heated. Look, I’m very relaxed, calm, composed. I’ve been at this level for many, many years, ultimate professional. But he talks a lot so of course I’m a good talker too and I’m going to fire back. As much as I don’t really have no interest in going back and forth with this clown, I’m not going to let him talk rubbish. And that’s what it was, a lot of delusional rubbish.
“I feel like he’s killing himself to make the weight so he’s talking a lot of nonsense, a lot of things that don’t make sense. One of the things was he’s beaten the guys that have beaten me. I can’t remember when he fought Haney or Lomachenko. So June 14th, Saturday night, victory.”
On if he has a wager with Hitchins
“Listen, I’m too smart for that. I’ve got the best financial advisor in the game. You don’t do what I’ve done with bad people around you. Why would I bet a 1:1 stake with a guy like that who doesn’t even have it in his bank account when there’s $7 odds on me. Come on, business. I can make three-fifty on that. So there’s a big bet away from him to make more than he’s ever seen his whole career.
“But I’m focused on the fight. He’s been thinking about this because he’s got nothing in his bank account. That’s his mentality, I don’t care about that. I’m focused on winning a fight, becoming two-time world champion. That’s my focus, that’s my aim and that’s what I’ll be June 14th, this Saturday night.”
