Yoshiki Takei is reportedly teeing up a September clash with top-ranked contender Christian Medina

WBO bantamweight champion Yoshiki Takei is gearing up for a quick turnaround, as ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez reports that a September showdown with no. 1 contender Christian “Chispa” Medina on the Naoya Inoue vs Murodjon Akhmadliev undercard is “on the table.”

After back-to-back gritty decisions over Jason Moloney and Daigo Higa, Takei (11-0, 9 KO) needed just over two minutes to demolish Yuttapong Tongdee last week. The former kickboxing ace has more than proven himself as a standout pugilist as well, showing off plenty of craft to go along with his brutal power.

Medina (24-4, 17 KO), 25, boasts just one loss in the last six years, a 2023 decision against future IBF titlist Ryosuke Nishida. He’s got the style to produce another classic with fellow slugger Takei, so keep your fingers crossed that this one comes together.

Speaking of which, we’ve yet to receive an official announcement for Inoue vs Akhmadaliev. Eddie Hearn called it a “done deal” last month and both emerged victorious in their most recent bouts, so hopefully that comes soon.
