Don King posted a $1.1M bid to secure the promotional rights to WBA ‘regular’ champion Kubrat Pulev defending against Michael Hunter.

Longtime promoter Don King may now work on the fringes of boxing promotion these days, but even at age 93 he and his company still look to pick their spots. Today it was announced that Don King has won the promotional rights for WBA secondary heavyweight titleholder Kubrat Pulev’s ordered defense against Michael Hunter, winning with a $1.1 million dollar bid.

The fight is expected to be held on August 23 in at a venue still to be determined but King suggests Florida, Las Vegas, Ohio and Pennsylvania are possible landing places for the event.

Pulev (32-3, 14 KOs) won the WBA’s ‘regular’ title last December with a decision win over Mahmoud Charr. Meanwhile, Hunter (24-1-2, 17 KOs) is most recently coming off of a stoppage win in Mexico last December against Christian Larrondo Garcia, who is a very low-level fighter with a 10-11-1 record.

Hunter, 36, looks to position himself for a shot at a major world title with a win over Pulev while Pulev may be looking to do the same, but at 44 years of age is already fighting on borrowed time.
