‘Sometimes you need that crazy’: Kambosos talks Garcia’s loss to Romero

George Kambosos says lackluster effort from Ryan Garcia might have been caused by subdued personality.

George Kambosos takes a few minutes to give his impression on Ryan Garcia’s loss to Rolando Romero over the weekend and what changes he noticed in Garcia going into the fight. Kambosos thinks Garcia might actually benefit from some craziness around him and that could perhaps be why he had a flat performance on the night.

“People are going to make assumptions of certain things and the way he was in the last fight compared to the recent fight,” Kambosos said of Garcia. “It’s not up to me to make that judgement on him. One thing I would say, and I did say it to DAZN before the fight, was sometimes you need that crazy, sometimes you need that uncertainty and Ryan had that obviously leading into the Haney fight.

“But you can see he’s very quiet, very peaceful, very relaxed in his own kind of mind. Maybe the craziness wasn’t there and he was comfortable and who knows what happened. That’s the fight game.

“Rolly did a tremendous job, you got to give him credit. He stuck to a certain game plan, you can see he had that right hand glued, kept touching the lead jab and he did a really good job and obviously getting that confidence early in the fight is just so important and I think he built from that.

“When you’ve already sparred a guy and you might’ve got the better of him, you kind of go in with that confidence. He kind of already had felt the power, felt the sharpness of him and probably thought to himself ‘I’ve been in there with this guy, I might’ve touched him up’ or whatever happened that sparring and he knew that when he got inside the ring he could handle business. So credit to him, man.”
