‘His best days are way gone’: Groves thinks Eubank should retire after taxing win over Benn

Chris Eubank Jr scored a win over Conor Benn but took plenty of physical punishment along the way.

George Groves suggests Chris Eubank Jr should consider retirement.

Chris Eubank Jr may have scored a big win over Conor Benn in their second generation grudge match, but it came at a price. It was clear to anyone who watched the fight that Eubank had to dig deep and fight through turbulent moments when he was physically hurt a few times and he immediately had to go to the hospital after the decision to be treated and monitored.

Former Eubank opponent George Groves tells Sky Sports that he has no desire to see a potential rematch between Eubank and Benn, as he urges Eubank to walk away from the sport at this point.

“Eubank got the win. But I think he went straight to hospital and didn’t come home till Monday morning. So I think he should leave his career there. I think Eubank should retire. His best days are way gone. Way past him. But he’s had a massive night. He’s had a great payday. He’s had a moment with his father. He’s scratched that itch. Maybe if he never had the Benn fight, it would always be ‘what if I had the Benn fight’,” Groves added.

Groves would continue by saying that there’s no other fight out there for Eubank that will live up to what his fight with Benn was and that should further implore him to hang up the gloves. Of course there is still the lure of a potential fight between Eubank and Canelo Alvarez, which Eubank has long expressed interest in.

Anyone who fights Canelo earns a massive payday so that will certainly be something that catches the strict attention of Eubank, who hasn’t announced any plans to call it quits just yet.
