‘I’m focused on Rolly’: Ryan Garcia not thinking of Haney rematch yet
Ryan Garcia says he’s locked in on Rolly Romero, and not worried about a Devin Haney rematch tonight.
Ryan Garcia has heard plenty from Devin Haney and his father Bill, and at Friday’s weigh-in, Haney (31-0, 15 KO) made specific mention of a rematch between the two later this year.
Haney, who faces Jose Ramirez in the chief support bout on tonight’s card from Times Square, is promising an improved version of himself, saying that Ramirez is “gonna get hurt,” and that, “It all starts with Jose, and once I get past Jose, I’m gonna get to Ryan.”
Garcia (24-1, 20 KO), on the other hand, says he’s fully locked in on his fight with Rolly Romero (16-2, 13 KO).
“I’m not here to give energy to the Haneys, because I’m focused on Rolly,” he said. “Without beating Rolly, we can’t have the rematch with Haney. I’m blessed to have this opportunity, and we’re ready to do our job.”
Garcia also says he feels strong and fit at the 147 lb limit.
“This is the weight class I belong in, and I’m excited to start my journey at 147,” he said. “I’m gonna show out.”
