Eubank Jr misses weight for Benn fight, absorbs hefty fine
Chris Eubank Jr was unable to make the agreed 160 lb limit for his fight with Conor Benn but the fight will go on.
Chris Eubank Jr just couldn’t make the agreed upon 160 lb limit for tomorrow’s big British clash against Conor Benn, but the fight will proceed as planned as reported by ESPN.
Eubank Jr tipped the scale at 160.2 lbs at the official weigh-in, and when given some extra time to shed the extra weight only managed to whittle down to 160.05 lbs — still just over the contractual limit.
Eubank Jr would be assessed a £375,000 penalty as a result, meaning that when combined with his egg crack on Benn’s head, he’s already forfeited over a half-million American dollars before the first bell has even rang. Fortunately for Eubank Jr, this fight seems to be viable enough for him to make it up once the money starts pouring in.
Benn, who is coming up from welterweight, officially weighed-in at 156.4 lbs, obviously well under the limit as he’s not a true middleweight. Neither fighter will be permitted to rehydrate to more than 170 lbs on fight day, which will clearly be harsher on Eubank Jr than Benn.
So, for now, we’re still officially a go for tomorrow’s main event Tottenham Hotspur. Join us tomorrow for live coverage of the event.
