‘I don’t think he should step in the ring again’: Arum says Fury should stay retired

Although Tyson Fury has returned from retirements before, Bob Arum thinks he should stay away for good this time.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Tyson Fury has declared his retirement only to return to the ring later, but Top Rank promoter Bob Arum tells Sky Sports that he thinks this time Fury should remain retired from boxing for good.

“I think Tyson Fury owes it to himself and his family to remain happily retired. Not from life, because I believe he has a lot in front of him. He is a good communicator and is an entertainer, but I don’t think he should step in the ring again because I think he’s had enough.”

Arum continues by saying that Fury has earned enough over his last few fights to never want for money again, and thinks Fury would be better served taking on other endeavors that wouldn’t require him to take any physical punishment.

Of course if Fury were to remain retired that would deny British boxing fans a showdown against fellow countryman Anthony Joshua, but that’s not a fight that really moves the needle for Arum at this point.

“As you know, I’m not a Brit, so I’m not as fascinated by an Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury fight as a Brit may be,” the American said. “So it doesn’t move me that he’s walking away from boxing and walking away from that fight.”

If Fury were to decide to return to boxing for another fight Arum admits that he wouldn’t stand in the way and would be willing to have Top Rank work on it, but that will ultimately be up to Fury to decide for himself as he’s not going to push that agenda.
