‘We know the truth’: Schofield Sr discusses his son being pulled from Shakur fight
Floyd Schofield Sr gives his perspect on his son being hospitalized leading into weekend fight with Shakur Stevenson.
Floyd Schofield Sr spends some time giving his perspective on his son being pulled from this weekend’s fight against Shakur Stevenson after suddenly falling ill during fight week. Schofield Sr had at one point accused Team Stevenson of poisoning his son, but has since walked back those specific claims as he tries to avoid a lawsuit until he can prove any allegations. Here’s some of what Schofield Sr had to say on the topic.
Schofield Sr on what forced his son to pull out of his fight against Shakur
“We didn’t pull out. The Bristish Board of Commission, they withdrew Floyd because they said he was admitted to the hospital so he couldn’t fight. We asked them could he still fight, that we will be out the following day and we will make weight and we still wanted the fight, but they said no. And there was nothing we could do to contest it or anything.”
On the events leading up to his son’s hospitalization
“I was getting a bunch of messages saying that somebody spiked my son or somebody did something, but my son he was telling me ‘dad, something’s wrong, I don’t feel right.’ And then I called the Saudi host that’s with us and I told him, they brought a doctor to the room and they said they had to rush him to the hospital, that something was wrong, and we went to the hospital and they kept him in there.”
On what he was told at the hospital about his son’s condition
“They ran toxicology reports and they didn’t really tell us too much. Like the Saudis, they good people, they made sure they stayed there with us, they had the best doctors taking care of him to get him right, but they didn’t give us too much feedback because they’re still waiting for the toxicology reports.
“Overall we just put it on my son, you know, he just, I don’t know what to say. I guess his body failed, that’s what they want us to say. They want us to said his body failed or something like that but we don’t know what caused it. So I got to be politically correct on everything but one thing I can say is the Saudi people treated us right.
“He got released, resting in the room. He’s still a little groggy and his body a little weak but in another two days he should be normal so he can fly back home.”
On believing someone deliberately did something to make his son ill
“I got a lot of text messages but from my mind what I just know something was up with my son, and for all we know it could’ve been an allergic reaction to mushrooms — I don’t know, that’s what they said. So we don’t know what happened and I still have to be politically correct ‘cause there’s defamation lawsuits and things like that.
“I don’t really have solid proof on exactly who did what so all we can say is Floyd is going to heal up, he’s going to be alright, and we’re looking forward to his return.
“I believe toxicology tests will tell the truth, but I can’t go on what Shakur and them going to say — they going to say whatever they need to say. But we know the truth and all we can do is bounce back, forgive people, and move forward. Let God fight the battles...”
