Canelo vs Scull undisputed title fight official for May 3 in Riyadh

Canelo Alvarez will look to face Terence Crawford as an undisputed champion after meeting IBF titlist William Scull this coming May

Turki Alalshikh announced on Twitter that the first fight of Canelo Alvarez’s freshly signed four-fight deal will see him face IBF super middleweight champion William Scull for the undisputed title on May 3rd in Riyadh.

Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KO) vacated the IBF belt last year rather than face Scull (23-0, 9 KO) in a mandatory defense, clearing the way for a more lucrative September showdown with Edgar Berlanga. The Cuban-born, German-based Scull instead took on Vladimir Shishkin for the vacant belt, fighting through a significant amount of ring rust to take home a competitive decision and the title.

All things considered, it could be worse. Scull is a damn sight more legitimate an opponent than Jermall Carlo or Bruno Surace, the reported front-runners. It was never going to be Osleys Iglesias, Christian Mbilli, or any of the other next-gen super middleweights with a Terence Crawford fight looming in September, so I’ll take a unification against a competent fighter.
