Ketanji Brown Jackson has an outlet for frustration: 'I take boxing lessons'

Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson says she's found a way of knocking out her worries: landing blows on life's aggravations in the boxing ring.

“I take boxing lessons,” Jackson said in an interview this week with The Associated Press.

"And I think that helps you to really get out any frustrations," the 54-year-old liberal justice said.

Boxing isn't the only hobby that Jackson enjoys when she's not sporting her traditional black robe.

Last month, she fulfilled what she has described as a childhood dream to become the “first Black, female Supreme Court justice to appear on a Broadway stage" when she performed on the Great White Way in a production of "& Juliet."

"I was nervous, going out on stage on Broadway, for sure,” she told the AP of the experience.

Jackson joined Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan in their three-member liberal minority on the court when she was sworn in in 2022. She reflected on the current balance of power, saying in her latest interview, "Progress is not always a forward march. And so this is sort of part of life."

"The court goes through cycles, and perhaps we’re in one now,” Jackson said.

“I mean, you can’t pick and choose your time on the court."
