Iglesias and Plantic in talks for interim WBC title fight
Undefeated super middleweights Osleys Iglesias and Luka Plantic are reportedly discussing a potential interim title fight
Julius Julianis and Carlos Linares bring word that undefeated super middleweights Osleys Iglesias and Luka Plantic are in talks for a potential interim WBC title fight.
The WBC hasn’t updated its rankings in over a month; as of December 19th, Iglesias (13-0, 12 KO) and Plantic (11-0, 9 KO) sit at no. 4 and 5 behind Christian Mbilli, Jaime Munguia, and Diego Pacheco. With Mbilli going the IBF route against Kevin Lele Sadjo, Munguia out of the picture for the foreseeable future after losing to Bruno Surace, and Pacheco also no. 1 with the WBO, I can see the logic. Not like Sulaiman cares that Canelo hasn’t fought a mandatory in four years; might as well have some form of the title remain active.
It’s also, as Julianis points out, just a really solid fight. Iglesias looks like the potential standard-bearer for the post-Canelo era, and though Plantic hasn’t gotten the same level of promotional push, he’s got a terrific amateur pedigree. We’ll keep you posted.
