Miyo Yoshida to return on February 1st!

0 14
Earlier today it was announced that former 2-weight world champion Miyo Yoshida (17-5) [吉田実代] would be returning to the ring on February 1st in New Jersey, in what looks to be a stay busy fight to start the year. The former WBO Female Super Flyweight and IBF female Bantamweight champion, who lost the IBF title in October to Shurretta Metcalf, will be up against Hungarian fighter Beata Dudek (5-5, 4).

The bout, which appears to have been arranged in something of a haste, will be an 8 rounder at an agreed 54.8KG (just under 121lbs), and will be held at the Prudential Center.

Talking about the contest Yoshida explained "Because I'm 36 years old, I have decided to have a comeback fight so that I can stay active for the remaining few years. I had a hard time deciding on an opponent, so I ended up fighting against a fighter one weight class above me for the first time at 121lb (approximately 54.8kg). My opponent is tall, and I think it will also help me prepare for Metcalf. If I lose, I will lose the right to a rematch, but I will fight as many times as possible this year so that my match instincts do not become dull, and I will do my best to win each fight so that I will have no regrets. There have been talks of world fights other than the IBF, but first I would like to focus on the fight in front of me and discuss the matter with my team. Thank you to everyone in Japan for your continued support."

Notably after Yoshida lost to Metcalf last year her team requested the IBF look at the result, and although they’ve not overturned the outcome of the bout, the IBF have made it clear that Yoshida should get a shot at Metcalf, in what will actually eb the third bout between the two, by October. Of course, if she loses to Dudek she will likely lose that shot at Metcalf, as she herself alluded to.
