What time is Islam Makhachev vs. Renato Moicano? Walkouts for UFC 311 main event
It’s not the matchup we expected, but Islam Makhachev and Renato Moicano are set to fight with undisputed UFC gold at stake. Their lightweight title bout scheduled for five rounds is taking place Saturday, January 18 at Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
The UFC 311 main event came together out of nowhere after news broke during official weigh-ins that original title challenger Arman Tsarukyan was forced to withdraw because of a back injury. That put the UFC in a bind, and the promotion ultimately saved the main event by reaching a deal with Moicano, who made 155 pounds for his originally scheduled matchup against Beneil Dariush.
Makhachev (26-1 MMA, 15-1 UFC), who will enter as an overwhelming favorite, will look for his fourth consecutive title defense as he also aims to push his winning streak to 15 fights. Moicano (20-5-1 MMA, 12-5 UFC), who is No. 10 in the official UFC rankings, received the title opportunity over No. 9 Dariush on the strength of having the longest active winning streak in the division outside of Makhachev at four.
