Casimero misses weight on Treasure Boxing Promotions show

0 3
Tomorrow at the Yokohama Budokan we get the next show from Treasure Boxing Promotions, and sadly it’s been marred by an incident at the weigh in which has again left it feeling like Treasure are giving too many opportunities to a fighter who has proven himself to be unprofessional and a liability.

The fighter in question is former 4-weight world champion John Riel Casimero (33-4-1, 22) who missed weight for his fight with American Saul Sanchez (21-3, 12). Sanchez comfortably made the agreed weight, coming in at 121.5lbs for the bout however Casimero was well over the limit, coming in 2.2lbs over the limit, even trying some dirty tricks on the actual scales to help come in under the limit. He was given time to make weight, but again failed to make the limit coming in just over 123lbs. As a result there was a meeting to decide whether the bout should go ahead, with the agreement that the bout was on, as long as Casimero weighs in under 128lbs tomorrow. Sadly this is not the first time Casimero has lost a battle with the scales, doing so prior to facing Mauricio Fuentes in 2014, where he came in at 113.75lbs for a bout at 108lbs, and later for a planned bout with Paul Butler, where he breached BBBofC rules for using a sauna to use weight and was pulled from the contest on medical grounds.

Thankfully Casimero’s weight was the only issue with the scales as the other fighters all made weight for their respective contests.

The other outs of note on the card include the third meeting between  former 2-weight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi (18-2, 12) [京口紘人] and Filipino fighter Vince Paras (21-2-1, 15). For this one, both men made the Flyweight limit with no issues. Kyoguchi, who lost the second bout between the two men earlier this year, was slightly heavier at 111.75lbs whilst Paras was 111.5lbs. Interestingly both were .25lbs lighter than they were in their last meeting.

Another former world champion on this card is former IBF Super Bantamweight champion Yukinori Oguni (21-2-3, 8) [小國以載] who faces Namibian fighter Fillipus Nghitumbwa (14-2, 12). On the scales Oguni was 121.75lbs whilst Nghitumbwa was 121.25lbs.

Yet another former world champion on this card is former WBO Minimumweight champion Masataka Taniguchi (18-4, 12) [谷口将隆], who faces Thai veteran, and former WBA “interim” Minimumweight champion Phai Pharob (38-5, 29), who is now 41 and years removed from his most notable success. Taniguchi was 110.75lbs whilst Pai Pharaob was 110.25lbs.

One other bout of note on this show is a female title fight, as Akane Fujiwara (6-4-1, 2) [藤原茜] and Thanchanok Phanan (20-10, 12), with both fighters coming in at 125.5lbs for the contest, which will be for the WBO Asia Pacific Female Featherweight title.
