Canelo hopes Edgar Berlanga’s fighting backs up his pre-fight talk

Canelo Alvarez has been on the receiving end of a lot of pre-fight trash talk in his career, and he’s been getting an earful from Edgar Berlanga, who will square off with Canelo on Sept. 14 in Las Vegas.

Canelo (61-2-2, 39 KO) will defend three super middleweight titles that night against Berlanga (22-0, 17 KO), an opponent few expect to be a serious threat to the veteran superstar, with the bloom having coming off the Berlanga hype rose over his last six fights, following a fluke-y career beginning that had ESPN and Top Rank going ga-ga over him.

Berlanga has promised that he hits harder than past Canelo opponents like Gennadiy Golovkin and James Kirkland, but Alvarez isn’t bothered by any of this.

“The people who talk a lot, it’s always because they’re nervous. That’s guaranteed,” Canelo said.

“I hope this is not the (case), but sometimes when people talk a lot of shit, they do nothing in the fight. I hope this fight is different, and I hope the way he talks, he fights. We’re gonna see if he’s ready or not.”
