‘If the money’s there, sign me up’: Whittaker open to idea of facing Eubank Jr

Despite fighting in different weight classes, both Ben Whittaker and Chris Eubank Jr appear to have a mutual interest in a potential fight.

After Chris Eubank Jr expressed some potential interest in fighting Ben Whitaker, who fights at light heavyweight, Whitaker spoke to Sky Sports about idea and says it would be obviously be something he’s up for should it come to pass.

“If the money’s there, sign me up. I’m bigger, I’m younger, I’m fresher. I wouldn’t turn it down,” he told Sky Sports.

“I’m bigger,” he said. “They make weight classes for a reason and I think he’s coming to the end of his career. I’m in the middle of starting my career so for me it’s probably the right time to catch him.”

Whitaker has gained a bit of a following with his flashy and unorthodox style but has limited professional experience, only having eight professional bouts against low level opposition. That said, he believes his skill outweighs Eubank Jr’s experience.

Admittedly, Whitaker knows that if he were ever to make a fight against Eubank Jr it would have to come at some agreed catchweight, but if it’s a fight that makes financial sense you can bet that all involved parties will find a way to come to terms.

Whitaker is currently scheduled to face Liam Cameron on October 12 in what will be an incremental step up from his prior opposition, while Eubank Jr will appear on the same card when he takes on Kamil Szeremeta in Riyadh.
