Danny Garcia has been off for two years but returns this in the fall in a WBA title fight.

Danny Garcia is set to make his return to the ring on the Sept. 14 Canelo Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanga undercard where he’ll take on Erislandy Lara for his WBA title. During yesterday’s kick off press conference which formally announced the fight, Garcia spoke about his long layoff to return at 160 lbs.

“I wasn’t off two years because I wanted to,” Garcia said. “Boxing took a change and I just sat down and waited for my opportunity. You know, the fight was supposed to happen last year in August but it didn’t happen. This is a fight that I’ve been planning for and a fight that I wanted. Lara has something I want, which is the title, and I’m the name — he wants my name, I want his title and it makes perfect sense. I’m trying to make history.

“Boxing’s all mental. You can do whatever you put your mind to. If you feel like you can’t do it, it’s probably because you can’t do it. But I know mentally I believe I can do anything I put my mind to and I never back down from any challenge. It’s just the weight, boxing is about skill and will. At the end of the day when you’re tired and you going into those championship rounds it’s all about who got the most will and they can box but everybody know Danny Garcia can fight.”
